Michigan State University has decided to ban whiteboards hung on dorm room doors. The ban will take effect in the Fall 2017 semester.

The university made the decision after several incidents of bullying via the boards.

WLNS-TV reports that whiteboards are commonly used to relay friendly messages, but recently they've been used for anonymous bullying.

On Valentine's Day, the Lansing NAACP referenced the ban on their Facebook page, saying that they had previously been contacted by an MSU student who had had a racial slur written on her whiteboard by someone.

The university says they will encourage students to connect online, rather than through messages on the boards.
