The kids are back to school, but back to school means more than just back to books for many students.  It also means back to sports.  Some younger than school aged kids are playing sports too.

What is the best age for kids to start playing sports?

Team sports teach kids to work together with their teammates, to listen to their coach, and to follow direction.  Sports can teach skills that are useful both in school and in life.  Not to mention most sports give kids an opportunity to get some exercise.

Starting sports at the age of four has worked well for my kids.  It was a good age to gain the social benefits of sports.  They had fun playing with other kids, got exercise, and got practice following direction from their coach.

Every child is different.  That makes picking just one age as to best to start playing sports difficult.  What has worked for your family?  What age did your kids start playing sports?
