It was another successful weekend for West Michigan high schools competing for state championships!

West Michigan schools brought home a total of four championships in boys soccer, boys cross country, and girls cross country.

Unity Christian boys soccer won the Division 3 state championship 1-0 over Williamston.

Unity Christian's defense dominated once again as they earned their 17th shutout in their last 19 games. 6 minutes into the game, senior Jared Timmer headed in the only goal of the game, his 30th of the season.

Timmer explained the goal, “Trent Vegter played it in and No. 17 (Josh Flint) was man-marking me the entire game – give him credit, he was doing very well – but I kind of snuck in behind him and he missed it,” Timmer said. “And I just tried to put it back post, and it just went over the keeper’s hands.”

Covenant Christian boys soccer finished as runners-up in Division 4. They lost 4-2 to Birmingham Roeper.

Rockford boys cross country won the Division 1 state championship. Rockford finished with 140. Second place White Lake Lakeland had a score of 146.

Grand Rapids Christian boys cross country won the Division 2 state championship. Grand Rapids Christian finished with 83. Second place Fremont had a score of 104.

Grand Rapids Christian girls cross country also won the state championship in Division 2. Grand Rapids Christian finished with 87. Otsego had a score of 145.

Congratulations on great seasons to all of our student-athletes in West Michigan!
