Six West Michigan Boy Scout Troops were a part of the USS Gerald R. Ford christening ceremony in Virginia earlier this month.

36 scouts from six troops participated at the christening ceremony in Virginia.

Participating troops were: Troop 98 (Otsego), Troop 316 (Holland), Troop 202 (Caledonia), Troop 250 (Byron Center), Troop 57 (Holland), and Troop 264 (Rockford).

All troops are part of the President Ford Field Service Council.

The troops were brought together by Bob Dawson, assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 316. HollandSentinel.com reports:

As part of the trip, Scouts elected patrol leaders. They joined Virginia Boy Scouts and, for three hours, stood dockside holding 78 flags to honor President Gerald R. Ford, an Eagle Scout from Grand Rapids.

Senior Boatswain Mate Ben Hansen, a Troop 78 Eagle Scout from Grand Rapids who is assigned duty on the USS Ford, got included in the Scouts' group photo near the ship. Each Scout received a patch unique to the christening.
