A couple of weeks ago we told you about five West Michigan high school teams and two individuals who brought home state championships.  Now, we have more good news.

West Catholic's Sam Weatherhead, winner of the Division 3 individual boys golf championship, has been named the best high school boys golfer in Michigan!

'Mr. Golf' is the title awarded annually to the best high school boys golfer in Michigan.  It has been 10 years since a West Michigan high school golfer won the award.

WZZM has more on Weatherhead's accomplishments:

Weatherhead was a state medalist at the Division 3 tournament two weeks ago. He also won five of seven tournaments he played in this past spring, including the Kent County Classic and the Forest Hills Invitational.

Weatherhead's accolade came three days after he qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur.

Along with the "Mr. Golf" honor, Weatherhead was also named to the Super Team and is also a first team all-state selection.

Watch for more from Weatherhead next year.  He is only a junior!

Congratulations to Sam Weatherhead and good luck at the U.S. Junior Amateur!
