This winter's tough conditions have closed schools and businesses.

It has also caused a blood shortage in West Michigan, creating an immediate need for blood donors.

Michigan Blood says on a typical day they collect about 400 donations statewide, January 6, they collected only 44.

The weather has led to a major drop in donations, but the need for blood is as big as ever.

Michigan Blood reports that they are still trying to catch up and get supplies to where they need to be.
