You guys! One of life's great mysteries has finally been solved!

Have you spent a lot of time wondering why your fingers and toes get all pruny in the bath? Well, now we know, thanks to science!

Turns out that scientists used to think that the reaction was caused by osmosis. They basically thought that our bodies were absorbing the water, and our skin was expanding to accommodate that, but  the tissue below didn't expand to fill in that extra space.

In 1935 (this info has been around that long and we never knew?!?), two scientists (named Lewis and Pickering) discovered that the reaction didn't occur in people who had nerve damage. *Insert record screeching noise*

Scientists now believe that our brains trigger skin wrinkling when we're in wet situations because our ancestors needed that wrinkly skin to help them grab wet things, or walk on wet surfaces.

My mind is blown. But, now we know!
