Right around 300 jobs could be leaving Grand Rapids if Dematic decides to relocate its West Michigan plant to Mexico.

The company builds conveyor and sortation equipment for distribution centers and is "considering" closing its Grand Rapids plant and moving to Monterrey, Mexico, according to a news release published Wednesday on MFRTech.

If this transition happens, it will likely start early this year and wrap up in September.

"If a decision to relocate is made, the closure of the manufacturing plant could impact as many as 300 positions in fabrication, assembly, warehouse, and plant administration," the release states. "No other functions should be affected including sales, engineering, solution development and customer service.

"... If Dematic decides to relocate, its leadership is dedicated to working through the transition with affected employees, including retaining as many employees as possible."

Dematic is based in Atlanta and employs more than 5,000 employees worldwide.
