Tulip Time Festival has announced their second attempt to break the world record for the largest number of people simultaneously dancing in wooden shoes!

The Klomp the Record world record attempt will occur at Kollen Park, at 10th Street and Kollen Park Dr. in Holland, on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 7:30PM.

Everyone is encouraged to participate. Registration is now open. Cost is $6 per person.

This will be Holland’s second attempt to break the current record of 2,605 simultaneous dancers in wooden shoes. The first attempt was held at Tulip Time 2015 but fell short of the record.

“It’s outrageous that somewhere other than Holland, Michigan would hold this current record,” exclaims Gwen Auwerda, Tulip Time Executive Director. “We hope others match our sentiment that it’s a matter of local pride to now break the record.”

Klomp the Record will be held as part of a Grand Finale celebration on the final Saturday of the festival. The evening’s events will include Dutch Dance performances, live music, and Klomp the Record followed by a spectacular fireworks display at dusk.

Guinness World Records requires the following of some strict rules and guidelines in order to ensure “official” results. Though Dutch costumes are not mandatory, participants are required to be registered and to wear wooden shoes. Everyone must know the dance and be able to dance for five straight minutes.

After registering to participate, present your confirmation page at Nelis’ Dutch Village or Vander Veen’s Dutch Store for a discount on the purchase of new wooden shoes. Or, attend the NewComers Dutch Costume Resale to purchase a pair of gently used wooden shoes.

During the months of January, February and March, Tulip Time will be accepting wooden shoe donations. All shoes must be dropped off at Borr’s Shoes, 51 E. 8th Street in Holland. Special discounts are available from Borr’s Shoes for those that donate shoes January 25-30 or February 22-27.
