Weekend Update has been a staple of Saturday Night Live ever since the show's first season in 1975, and as part of the 40th Anniversary Special, SNL recognized the weekly news parody with a tribute led by Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Jane Curtin.

Fey and Poehler, who co-anchored Weekend Update from 2004 to 2006, were joined by Jane Curtin, who anchored between 1976 and 1980. Fey, Poehler and Curtin made several self-referential jokes to 'SNL' before several guest stars paid tribute to some stars from years past.

Emma Stone paid tribute to the late Gilda Radner, who appeared on Saturday Night Live between 1975 and 1980. Stone portrayed one of Radner's most famous characters, Roseanne Roseannadanna, who gave consumer report editorials in a cranky tone. Melissa McCarthy channeled the late Chris Farley, who brought back his famous Matt Foley character, a 35-year-old motivational speaker who constantly reminded everyone that he lived "in a van down the river."

But it wasn't just legendary characters that were brought back, as Edward Norton channeled Bill Hader's Stefan character. But not to be outdone, Hader himself appeared as Stefan while giving him pointers on the hottest clubs in New York City.

Later, the men of Weekend Update, including Kevin Nealon, Norm MacDonald, Colin Quinn and Seth Meyers appeared to acknowledge the guy who sat in the very first Weekend Update desk, the legendary Chevy Chase.
