The 87-year old owner of the Detroit Tigers, Mike Ilitch passed away in February, but his legacy will live on, not only on the Tigers uniform sleeves, but in their outfield grass.

On Opening Day Friday, the Detroit Tigers will unveil their latest tribute to Ilitch, his nickname 'Mr. I,' cut into the outfield grass at Comerica Park.

I'm not sure how outfield art like this and others are achieved, but I do know it is the very definition of an “Angel in the Outfield.”

Ilitch was well known among fan bases for his willingness to spend whatever it took to make his teams successful as evidenced by the Red Wings who are arguably the most successful franchise in the NHL in the late 1990s and 2000s, winning four Stanley Cups between 1997 and 2008.
