Thunder the dog is our special pet of the week.

Andy Rent talked about him on his Andy in the Morning show for Wet Nose Wednesday.

Trudy, from the Humane Society of West Michigan, brought Thunder to the studios. He  is a 10 year old Chihuahua. He was brought to the Humane Society because his owner was ill. He lives successfully with another dog at HSWM. Because Thunder is part of the Silver Paws society his adoption fee is waived, and it would be wonderful if he could find a loving, forever, home.

According to the AKC, Chihuahua's all have large, alert ears, big moist eyes, and huge personalities. Inside each little Chihuahua is a miniature king or queen ready to rule their realms, so they need to be taught what is acceptable in human kingdoms. They are intelligent and enthusiastic, so they usually don’t need extensive training.

Trudy mentioned that the Grand Rapids Ballet is holding a fundraiser for HSWM. They will be having three shows of The Happy Prince & Other Wilde Tales on Friday, May 11 at 7:30 PM and on Saturday, May 12 at 2 PM and 7:30 PM. Use the code HSWM50 when purchasing tickets and 50% of the sales will be donated back to HSWM to support animals in need!

Holly Kroeze from Bissel Pet Foundation also joined the show. She said the Foundation  is supporting the Empty the Shelters event on May 5th. All adoptions will be paid for by Bissell. On May 5th, the Humane Society will be taking pre-approved applications only from 11-12 and will be open to the rest of the public 12-4. Puppies and kittens will NOT be available that day.

You can get all the information on the Humane Society website or call (616) 453-8900.
