As you sit down to watch the Winter Olympics, hoping for a serious wipeout in the Downhill event, keep this in mind, all that snow was made by a Michigan machine.

Snow Makers Inc., or SMI, based in Midland is the official snow maker for the Alpine events at the Jeongseng Alpine Center.

In addition to snow making equipment, the company has provided things like PoleCats and Super Wizzards to not only the Alpine venure, but the ski jumping and cross country venues as well.

They also posted this panoramic view of the venue.

Ian Honey, the project manager on site from SMI told USA Today that about 98 percent of the snow at the ski venues is man-made and technically, Michigan made.

“With the speeds they’re doing and the responsiveness of their skis, it seems what they need is more a more durable and better and consistent product on the mountain,’’ Honey told the newspaper.

If you've skied Michigan, you've probably skied on SMI snow. They provide snow making equipment at Boyne Mountain, Nub's Nob, and Caberfae among others.
