Big-time fun is coming to downtown Grand Rapids this Thursday, June 20th.  But, it's not for everyone, just for interns!

Yes, the lowly intern, the do everything for everybody person, hoping to pick up experience and contacts to grab their first job.

However, for one day, they get a chance to shine, and move from cubicle to Olympic podium.   More than 300 interns from West Michigan companies will take competition to another level during the sixth annual Summer Intern Olympics June 20 at Grand Valley State University, downtown.

Some of the region’s largest employers of interns will participate, including GE Aviation, Gordon Food Services, Meijer, Haworth, Perrigo, Steelcase, Spectrum Health, Northwestern Mutual Financial Network and Wolverine Worldwide. Teams of interns will compete for first place by completing company-themed games and activities throughout downtown Grand Rapids.

The games will go from 2:30-4:30 p.m. The event will conclude with a networking reception and trophy presentation from 4:30-5 p.m. on the second floor of the Eberhard Center, Pew Grand Rapids Campus.

This is the third year Grand Valley has hosted the event, and is a great example of the types of private/public partnerships Grand Valley engages in West Michigan.  The games are also a perfect time for interns, especially those from out of state, to see all the career and educational opportunities this area has to offer.
