‘The End of the Tour’ Set for Limited Release on July 31
The End of the Tour will receive limited release July 31. The summer release is designed to capitalize on the film’s Oscar buzz and give it a better chance heading into Oscar season.
Filmmakers confirmed with us that The End of the Tour will receive a limited release on July 31 and will expand through August. Further details of the film’s release are not yet known.
A24 will distribute the film. A24 has a solid lineup of indie films including A Most Violent Year, Under the Skin and The Spectacular Now, which was directed by The End of the Tour’s director James Ponsoldt.
A24’s A Most Violent Year got an Oscar push after it’s release in November 2014. The film received award nominations from National Board of Review, Independent Spirit, Golden Globe and others, but no Oscar nominations.
A Most Violent Year had a hard time getting noticed among all of the other films receiving a strong Oscar push at the end of the year. Indiewire explains that the summer release of The End of the Tour shows a different Oscar strategy from A24.
The End of the Tour is already generating Oscar buzz, especially for Jason Segel’s role of David Foster Wallace. An early release for the The End of the Tour will give the film more time to get noticed and a better chance at the Oscars.
Some of “The End of the Tour” was shot in the radio studios and offices of Townsquare Media Grand Rapids, which is home to 100.5 The River, 97.9 WGRD, Channel 95.7, Greatest Hits 98.7 WFGR and 1410 AM The Touch.
