The great baseball expose of the 60's -- "Ball Four,"  author Jim Bouton writes of meeting a baseball idol who told him and his brother to "take a hike, son" after he told his hero how much he admired him, etc.  While "take a hike" is a put down line in my family as it was for his, we would all do well to take a hike and to be quick about it.  Journal of the American Medical Association found walking speed turned out to be a consistent predictor of survival lenght across age, race and height categories, and was especially useful in zeroing in on life expectancy for those who still live and get around independently and for those older than 75.   So, rather than raise a glass to toast your next birthday maybe we should just "take a hike."
