Think The Potholes Are Bad Now? Study Shows Grand Rapids Roads Getting Worse

Driving down Hall Street and dodging all the potholes gets me to thinking.  I wonder if maybe one day while driving home from work, my car and me might just disappear into one of those big potholes, falling deep into the dark abyss of the earth, only to resurface in China.   They just seem to gobble you up, don't they?   Seriously, at the very least they do an enormous amount of damage to the front end of cars, tires and alignments.

Rockford Construction May Bring More Than 160 Jobs To Grand Rapids

Whenever I see a news story that talks about more jobs coming to Grand Rapids and/or West Michigan it always piques my interest.  It's a good thing, right?  I mean when you think of all the people who have lost jobs in Michigan it can be a bit overwhelming.  Any bit of news about jobs moving here is a good thing.

Right now Rockford Construction is looking to relocate to Grand Rapids, possibly as early as this summer, in addition to creating 160 jobs.

Grand Rapids Premieres Feature Length Film “Urbanized”, At Wealthy Theatre

I love architecture!  Recently I sold a number of paintings that were done by architect Frank Lloyd Wright's last apprentice on eBay, his name was Robert Green.  I purchased a number of Robert's paintings from his son Matthew.  I think his paintings were so wonderful because there was just something so  different about them.  Maybe being an architect, that happened to be lucky enough to study under one of the most highly acclaimed architects of all time, may have helped Robert to look at things a bit differently.  I imagine that this feature length documentary will examine all of the aspects of building and how it affects our cities, neighborhoods, landscapes and nature itself.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Here’s What’s Happening Around Town

What does Memorial Day Weekend mean to you?  Over the years it has become an occasion, for many,  as a weekend to remember.  Many people visit the graves of their deceased relatives, whether they had served in the military or not.   Red, white and blue flags wave over the grave stones and flowers sometimes decorate the grave markers.  It has also become a long weekend devoted to bargain shopping, family gatherings, barbecues, fireworks, and trips to the beach. (Grand Haven and the Lakeshore is usually PACKED on Memorial Day weekend, if the weather in nice.)

MEAP Exam Test Constantly Changing For Grand Rapids Kids & Teachers

Yeah, I remember these tests.  The pressure seemed to be just too much.  Even if I knew the information the importance of scoring on this test just made me blank out. If you're raising children in Michigan, you are all too familiar with the MEAP test.

This year, the state has raised the passing standards. Come this fall, and there are some lawmakers who want to get rid of the test all together.

West Michigan’s John Ball Zoo & Binder Park Zoo Are Now Officially OPEN

This is the closest many of us will ever get to seeing animals in a somewhat natural habitat.  At least they are protected and won't be hunted down like so many animals in the wild. Rhino's in South Africa were the animals most recently in the news.

So if you want to see animals that are protected, loved, and nurtured we have two zoos in our area that are now officially open.  The John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids and the Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek.

Apple Farmer Says, “We’re Just Growing Trees This Year”

Sad.  That's all I can say I felt when I read this headline on mLive.  Sad.

Apple farmer says, "We're just growing trees this year."

It was the apple farmers greatest fear and honestly it was my greatest fear too, because no one in this country can grow tasty apples like Michigan farmers can.  Well, this season is pretty much a bust for West Michigan apple growers.
