Michigan State Advances to NCAA Men’s Basketball Tourney Sweet 16 with 60-54 Win over Virginia

Travis Trice had 23 points, including three three-pointers, and Branden Dawson added 15 points and nine rebounds to lead Michigan State past Virginia 60-54 on Sunday afternoon in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament in Charlotte.

The seventh-seeded Spartans (25-11) advanced to the East Region's Sweet 16 with the triumph.

Second-seeded Virginia (30-4), which also lost to MSU in the tournament last year, got 11 points from Anthony Gill and 10 points and 14 rebounds from Darion Atkins.

University of Michigan’s Mitch McGary Leaving After Positive Marijuana Test During NCAA Tournament

University of Michigan center Mitch McGary is forgoing his final two seasons of eligibility for the NBA draft after he failed a drug test during the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament.

McGary announced Friday morning via a U-M news release his decision and that he had smoked marijuana once at an Ann Arbor establishment. The NCAA was prepared to suspend McGary for an entire season for the infraction, prompting him to declare for the NBA draft.

Michigan’s Nik Stauskas and Glenn Robinson III Leaving for NBA

University of Michigan men's basketball players Glenn Robinson III and Nik Stauskas are forgoing their last two years of eligibility to enter the NBA Draft.

Michigan Coach John Beilein announced their decisions in a news conference Tuesday. Both are sophomores, with Robinson from St. John, Ind., and Stauskas from Mississauga, Ontario.

All-Big Ten Conference shooting guard Gary Harris is foregoing his junior season at Michigan State University to enter the upcoming NBA Draft.

The 19-year-old Fishers, Ind., native made the move official Monday afternoon, when MSU issued a news release announcing his decision.

Many believed Harris would have been selected early in last year’s NBA Draft, but he elected to return for his sophomore season in East Lansing.

The NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament ended tantalizingly short of the Final Four for both Michigan State and Michigan on Sunday.

Second-seeded Michigan fell 75-72 to eighth-seeded Kentucky in the Midwest Region final in Indianapolis.

Fourth-seeded Michigan State lost 60-54 to seventh-seeded Connecticut in the East Region final in New York.
