For the first time ever, swing dancers will be taking over downtown Grand Rapids' "Blue Bridge" for one special night of dancing under the stars (well for part of the night, anyway.)

Grand Rapids Original Swing Society start the dancing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, and will continue until 9:30 p.m.

Organizers are asking for a suggestion $5 donation from attendees to help cover the cost of renting the bridge and the security necessary to make sure that the event is safe for all who attend. For an additional $5 participants can get a commemorative t-shirt.

In 2013, the weekly Tuesday night swing dancing moved out of Rosa Parks Circle because they had outgrown the space.

This summer, the society will be in a variety of different places around downtown Grand Rapids including two appearances at the Blue Bridge (Tuesday night and again on June 9), a return to Rosa Parks Circle, and the Gillette Pedestrian Bridge.

The Grand Rapids Original Swing Society officially made the Guinness Book of World Records in 2012, when they were named the "Largest Swing Dance in the World."
