Ahhh, Summer!  It's almost here and school will be out, summer vacation, and, a lot of free time on kids hands.

How about spending some of the "free time" at the pool?

Summer gets pretty hot, and the City of Grand Rapids will be opening their pools again this summer.  However, only three of the six large pools will be open.

That's a major bummer, but at least there will be some big-time heat-relief this summer.  The pools at Briggs, Richmond and Martin Luther King Jr. Parks will open in early July and remain open for about seven weeks. Prices are still be be finalized, but are expected to be the same as last year, when residents were charged $2, and $5 for non-residents.

For years, the pools support has been precarious, needing to be supported by philanthropists and community donors.  The good news today is that pool funding is in the city budget and general fund dollars are there for three pools.

Three open pools is better than non, but let's hope the City can come up with a solution to fund all six in the near future.
