April 12, 2012, will be an exciting day in Grand Rapids.  St. Cecilia Music Center and Lincoln Center begin their collaboration by presenting the highly acclaimed and award winning Jupiter String Quartet.  The Jupiter String Quartet has been the quartet-in-residence at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center for the past three years and their musical program for St. Cecilia Music Center’s concert will include works by Haydn, Ravel and Schubert.

The Jupiter is a young group, formed in 2001. Every one of its players are absolutely first-rate: violinists Nelson Lee and Meg Freivogel, violist Liz Freivogel (sisters) and cellist Daniel McDonough.

The Jupiter String Quartet have received several recent chamber music honors, including first prize in the Banff International String Quartet Competition, grand prize in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competion, membership in Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society Two, and Chamber Music America’s Cleveland Quartet Award, which “honors and promotes a rising young string quartet whose artistry demonstrates that it is in the process of establishing a major career.”  The quartet also won the 2005 Young Concert Artists International auditions and now holds YCA’s Helen F. Whitaker Chamber Music Chair. Most recently, they were honored to receive an Avery Fisher Career Grant.

Single tickets for the Jupiter String Quartet are $35 and $30 / student $10.  The concert will be followed by a complimentary post-concert reception to meet the artists. St. Cecilia also offers a pre-concert reception for $15 that includes wine and hors d’oeuvres.  Make reservations at 616-459-2224 or purchase tickets online at www.scmc-online.org.
