The St. Cecilia Music Center is becoming the place to be...the "hot-bed" of music in Grand Rapids.  St. Cecilia began their new campaign “NYC2GR” depicting top-notch New York City caliber performances and St. Cecilia Music Center’s new partnership with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York, and now, they keep amazing us with the caliber of their jazz series.

This coming Thursday, January 24th, the Legendary Dave Holland, bassist, composer and band leader will make a memorable musical appearance with his Dave Holland Quintet. Dave Holland has played with greats the likes of Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Anthony Braxton, and Barry Altschul.

Dave Holland’s top-notch quintet includes Robin Eubanks on trombone, Mark Turner on sax, Steve Nelson on vibraphone and Nate Smith on drums. Among the Dave Holland Quintet notable recordings are Not for Nothin’, Prime Directive and Extended Play.
Dave Holland is now in his fifth decade as a performer and his music possesses a rich and kaleidoscopic history. He is a seminal figure in post-1960s jazz, but has never allowed his work to be limited by tradition.
The Wolverhampton, England, native got his big break performing with Miles Davis. Solo, and in collaboration, Holland became a dominant voice in the 1970s – working with musicians such as Bonnie Raitt and John Hartford, and even Jimi Hendrix.
Holland formed his first working quintet in 1983, and released Jumpin’ In, and continued to develop other varied and fruitful relationships with artists such as Anthony Braxton, Stan Getz, Cassandra Wilson, Jack DeJohnette, Chick Corea, Thelonious Monk, Betty Carter, Bill Frisell and Herbie Hancock over the course of his career.

The St. Cecilia Jazz Series with the Dave Holland continues the Jazz Series featuring the best in jazz performances within a world-class setting in Downtown Grand Rapids.  St. Cecilia Music Center is proclaimed to be one of the finest concert halls in the world according to world-renowned musicians who have played there. Many of the musicians who have performed on the Royce Auditorium stage have called it “one of the finest acoustical settings in the world” and this has increased their desire to return to Grand Rapids to perform again at St. Cecilia Music Center.
