The trauma centers at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids have both been re-verified as Level I trauma centers by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

Level I trauma centers provide the highest level of surgical care to trauma patients, and Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital are the only Level I trauma centers in Grand Rapids. Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital is also one of only three Level I pediatric trauma centers in the state of Michigan.

Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance. There are five separate categories of verification in the COT's program, with Level I being the highest verification.

Congratulation to Spectrum Health.
