So, how's that New Year's Resolution coming? What about that diet and healthy eating you were going to begin? Well? Not so well? Well, be careful and don't go too far.

If you’ve got your New Year’s Resolutions in place – and they involve adding supposedly “healthy” foods into your lifestyle, think again.

My wife Kathy and I are determined to have a healthy lifestyle, and eat better. Thus, we have begun changing what we eat, slowly of course, but we're making progress. However, I found this article on the website thrillist.com, and it opened my eyes.

Here’s a rundown of some healthy foods that don’t really deliver a lot of bang for the buck:

Coconut oil – It’s been sold to us as a “healthy” oil, but coconut oil is actually high in saturated fat. Might as well just reach for canola oil.

Egg whites – Not eating the yolks in your morning omelets means you’re missing out on vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Granola – Granola tastes good because it’s filled with calories and fat. You might as well have a candy bar.

Veggie burgers – Who knows what kind of chemicals are in these processed hockey pucks. You’re better off reaching for a fresh meat or fish-based burger.

Yogurt – Sorry, but most of the yogurt you find at your local grocery store is more of a dessert than a snack. Anything other than plain Greek yogurt is a problem.

Hmmmm. Guess we had better study a little deeper.

Here's to a happy and healthy 2016!
