SiTE:LAB Taking Over Three Acres in Grand Rapids for Rumsey Street Project [Video]
SiTE:LAB is an all-volunteer organization which creates temporary site-specific art. Its venues at ArtPrize have been award-winning.
Now, SiTE:LAB is set to begin a two-year project with the City of Grand Rapids and Habitat for Humanity of Kent County called the Rumsey Street Project.
For the Rumsey Street Project, SiTE:LAB will takeover three acres of unoccupied buildings in Grand Rapids’ Roosevelt Park neighborhood. SiTE:LAB will involve local and international artists at the site which will also serve as their location during ArtPrize in 2015 and 2016.
Buildings at the site include a former Catholic church and rectory, a body shop, houses, and vacant lots. Habitat for Humanity will redevelop the area beginning in 2017.
SiTE:LAB has organized over 20 temporary site-specific art projects including at Blandford Nature Center and UNTITLED in Miami.
