Even though we knew since the beginning of this year that Sears was planning on closing multiple locations around the country and the one in Woodland Mall has been closed since March; any sight left of Sears is now officially gone.

After almost 50 years, demolition at Woodland Mall has begun to transform what used to be Sears.

I drove by the mall on Monday evening and they have it completely fenced off around the building so no one can get into what used to be the parking lot.

Even the Sears sign is gone!

Since you can't see (or at least I can't) over the fence I went into complete stalker mode and stood on my car to get pictures.

As you can see Sears is becoming nothing but debris and old building pieces as a demolition truck is breaking it down.

Once security started rolling by a couple times, and getting some awkward stares from drivers, I knew it was time to call off my stalking mission but you get the gist of what is happening.

As sad as it is to see one era come to an end there's lots to look forward to in the future. Woodland Mall plans on turning the 313,000 sq feet of what used to be Sears to other retailers and restaurants. What we for sure know is that 90,000 sq. feet is reserved for Von Maur, a high-end department store, which will be the first in West Michigan and is expected to open in Fall of 2019.
