Rewind of the 80’s at Picnic Pops This Week
Remember the 80s? The era of bangles, hoop earrings, parachute pants and really big hair, not to mention Cabbage Patch Kids, Masters of the Universe and Teddy Ruxpin. At one time or another, we had them all at our house, yes, including the "big hair!"
Movies Raiders of the Lost Ark and Back to the Future, TV sitcom with shows such as The Cosby Show, Roseanne and Married … with Children. What a time.
MTV was born in August 1981, and launched the careers of Duran Duran and Culture Club and made Madonna a fashion icon and Michael Jackson a megastar.
This Thursday and Friday night, the Grand Rapids Pops’ D&W Fresh Market Picnic Pops remembers all of that stuff when everything was “awesome,” “tubular,” “rad” or “bodacious” with 80s Rewind! at Cannonsburg Ski Area.
Principal Pops Conductor Bob Bernhardt leads the Grand Rapids Symphony in music by George Michael and Wham, R.E.M. and INXS and much more.
Hosted by Mickey Thomas, lead singer of Starship, the show includes such classic 1980s hits as the Scorpions’ Rock You Like A Hurricane, Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl, and U2’s Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.
It’s a hit-driven rock ‘n’ roll show, and everyone – of a certain age – will know every song and probably all the lyrics, too.
For tickets you can call the Grand Rapids Symphony at (616) 454-9451 ext. 4 during business hours or (616) 885-1241 evenings or go online to PicnicPops.org. Get ticket in person at the Grand Rapids Symphony office at 300 Ottawa Ave. NW, Suite 100.
