The Grand Haven City Council approved conceptual design drawings for renovations to Waterfront Stadium at their meeting Monday night.

The Grand Haven Tribune reports that the seating capacity would remain close to the same at 2,000, but more space could be provided for temporary seats and bleachers.

Grand Haven City Manager Pat McGinnis tells us that they could have a shovel in the ground by spring of 2018.

Highlights of the renovation plan include:

  • Waterfront walkway
  • Grass seating
  • 18-inch tall seat walls
  • Volleyball playing surface
  • Seasonal ice rink
  • Dancing area
  • Band shell and stage
  • Winter fire pits
  • Chair and skate rental building
  • Drop-off space

The next phase of the project is fundraising which the Grand Haven Tribune reports will include "large corporate sponsorship, traditional community fundraising efforts, grant writing, and seeking support from local governments."
