This morning, the Detroit Lions announced an agreement with Ford Motor Company’s Quick Lane Tire & Auto Center for a new, annual college football bowl game.

The Quick Lane Bowl will be held at Ford Field and feature teams from the Big 10 and ACC conferences.

This year's game will take place on Dec. 26 at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN.

The Lions will host and operate the game, making them only the second NFL team to host a college bowl game. The Houston Texans also operate a college bowl game.

Lions president Tom Lewand said:

This has the potential to be in the winter what The Grand Prix is in the spring and summer. It’s got a national draw. The television ratings have the potential to be larger than what they are for The Grand Prix, so the amount of eyeballs around the country that will be on Detroit in December that we can plan around are significant.”

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August. 28 at quicklanebowl.com, the Ford Field box office or by telephone at (877) 212-8898.
