To join or not to join. Many frequent golfers are faced with that question each year. There are so many nice golf courses in Michigan -- and west Michigan in particular, it is not surprising to see a few once private courses are allowing public play. The Highlands has been "semi-private" for a couple years now. I heard Centennial is going the same way.

You can make an case for both sides, but speaking as a member of the Highlands, it was sure nice to just walk up and start playing. Odds were good I knew someone on the range, in the bar or on the course and could always count on company. I met a lot of great people that way. However, I really like playing all the area's courses.

What would you do if you ran a private course. How do you compete with the many great public courses. Any thoughts. I bring it up after reading a very interesting article on the subject.

What are your thoughts.
