A bicyclist is recovering today after being hit by what Michigan State Police believe to be a Ford Explorer late Thursday night on Fuller Street at the I-196 interchange.

The 32 year old man, who has been identified as Nick Szczpaniuk by WOOD TV 8, was struck while riding on Fuller just before the Ford Freeway interchange. He is recovering with head and back injuries that authorities say are not life threatening.

Debris left at the scene lead Michigan State Police to believe the person was driving a Ford Explorer, model year 2002-2005, probably maroon in color with extensive damage done to the grill area, and possibly marked by the green paint of Szczpaniuk's bicycle.

Anyone with information is asked to call MSP trooper David Ybarra at 616.866.6670.

Police say Szczpaniuk was riding his bicycle on Fuller Thursday night around 11pm, and was headed north with a green light. That's when the driver of an SUV turned in front of the man, causing the crash.
