The Consumer Product Safety Commission ordered the ban last year after it was determined the cribs played a role in dozens of infant deaths over the past decade. Hotels, motels and day care centers are being allowed to use the drop-side rail cribs until December 2012. They'll then have to make a switch to cribs that comply with tougher safety standards. Manufacturers will have to make stronger and more durable mattress supports and hardware used in cribs. They'll also be required to put their products through more rigorous safety testing.
