Kids Are More Likely to Get Hit by Cars on Halloween, Says Study

Kids always look forward to trick-or-treating on Halloween, but a new study from the Centers for Disease and Prevention may give some parents pause.

The CDC reports children are four times more likely to be hit by cars on October 31 than on any other day of the year — probably not terribly surprising, given the increase in the number of kids who are out and about on Halloween.

Better Buy Your Pumpkin Early

Halloween's more than a month away, but if you're hoping for a  fresh pumpkin,  (Jack-o-lantern), for the holiday, you might want to plan to shop  early.

The Grand Rapids Press says it's hard to believe, but Michigan's pumpkin crop isn't the best this year, farther north the yields are just average, and there will likely be no help from other states — Hurricane Irene left jack-o-lantern fields in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey underwater, rotting.

Party Schools and Sober Schools. Where are they?

Ohio University has been named the nation's No. 1 party school.

Calvin College in Grand Rapids is listed 7th in the Stone-cold Sober list.

The school in Athens -- a town known for rowdy Halloween bashes -- pushes the University of Georgia down a slot in the 2011 Princeton Review student survey released Monday.
