The University of Michigan confirmed in a statement Friday that Norovirus has sickened over 100 of their students.

The illness was first found in students who live in University Housing in the South and West Quads.

The University's Chief Health Officer, Dr. Robert Winfield, has said that he believes that they haven't even seen the full extent of the illness outbreak as many students are doing what is being asked of them and self-isolating themselves in their room.

How does one avoid getting the virus? Winfield suggests not sharing food or beverages with others and practicing good hygiene. "Sing 'The Victors' (takes 20 seconds) while washing your hands with soap and water."

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that norovirus is highly contagious and can easily spread. Both stool and vomit are contagious. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and fever.
