Lake effect snow is quite common in West Michigan, and that has been apparent in the last week.  While most of the state of Michigan saw snow around Christmas, only West Michigan received nearly constant snow, with even more to come in the forecast.

If you've ever wondered how lake effect snow forms, The Weather Channel put together this cool explanation in 3D.
