The site of the former Michigan Athletic Club (MAC) at 2500 Burton SE in Grand Rapids is getting a new, healthy business that will provide “healthy food at healthy values.” Fresh Thyme Farmers Market, which offers an abundant produce department, hormone free meats, freshly baked goods, fresh seafood, organic foods, gluten and dairy free options, plus much more, will anchor the proposed 85,000-square-foot mixed-use retail development.

CWD Real Estate Investment plans to provide a preliminary site plan to the City of Grand Rapids later this month.

“We are in the early stages of the process and have just started working with the City of Grand Rapids on our plans,” according to CWD Real Estate managing partner Scott Wierda. “If possible, we hope to begin construction yet this year.”

CWD purchased the land in 2013 after the operators of the MAC announced plans to close the facility. CWD also manages and leases Breton Village across the street. The Breton Village area has become a premier fashion destination that includes Leigh’s, Anthropologie, Ann Taylor LOFT, JB and Me, Talbots, Fitzgeralds, and coming soon, lululemon and Evereve (formerly Hot Mama.)

The addition of Fresh Thyme Farmers Market continues the CWD goal to enhance the livability of our near neighborhoods as well as the urban core. This will be the first “Farmers Market” grocer in the community.
