A new bar is planned for a spot downtown Grand Rapids that's been vacant since Raggs to Riches closed in 2012.

MiBiz reports that Downtown Development Authority has given approval to issue a liquor license to Ambiance GR LLC, which would be the first African American-owned bar in downtown Grand Rapids in years.

Representatives said the new establishment at 125 Ottawa Avenue would have live jazz and blues music and southern contemporary food.

Sitting at the corner of Ottawa and Pearl, the 5,000 square foot space is estimated to seat around 80 people in its dining area.

Ambiance GR is expected to open in March of 2019.
