A heartbroken stray dog in Georgia is refusing to leave Savannah’s Laurel Grove North Cemetery after burying her puppy amongst the headstones.

According to The New York Daily News, aspiring photographer Hunter Cone, 15, spotted the dog sitting beside her deceased puppy while he was taking photos in the cemetery on Jan. 6. He returned later with his mother and attempted to feed to dog, but she ran off.

Cone returned the next day to find the dog still there, standing in the same spot, where she had buried the pup.

Attempts to lure the grieving mother out of the cemetery have been unsuccessful.

Cope says, “I don't believe it will be rescued but we're going to keep trying and hope for the best."

In addition to wanting to help the sad mother dog, Cone hopes that this story will raise awareness about Georgia's animal control laws, which prevent rescue groups from taking in strays unless the group is contracted by the government.
