School Bans Mother Battling Breast Cancer Because She Smells [VIDEO]
A woman fighting breast cancer has a whole other battle on her hands.
Kerri Mascareno, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, has been told by her daughter’s elementary school that she cannot go inside the building because she smells.
Mascareno recalled a conversation with principal Robert Abney at Tierra Antigua Elementary School:
He just said he knows this is going to hurt my feelings and he understands where I’m coming from because his mother had breast cancer and she had the same exact smell and I can no longer be in the school and that with me being in the school that I made his employees ill.”
Even after she maintained her distance, Mascareno claims Abney kept on her. "He just said that he would have to ask me to sit in my car because he could smell me through the window,” Mascareno said.
Abney wouldn't comment or apologize about the matter, instead directing questions to the school district.
As if this isn’t enough of an emotional trauma for her, Mascareno says Abney told her she can go to the school’s upcoming Thanksgiving dinner if she and her daughter agreed to sit in his office.
The school may finally relent from its policy, however. Mascareno says she recently received a call from Abney saying she and her daughter would be allowed to enjoy the Thanksgiving dinner in the cafeteria with everyone else.
