Last week, Lamar Construction shut down its construction and structural steel divisions and filed for bankruptcy, leaving almost 180 West Michigan residents unemployed. The Ottawa County Michigan Works! office plans to hold an event next week to offer some help for those who lost their jobs.

WZZM-13 reports that  after 74 years in business, Hudsonville-based Lamar Construction Co. shut down its operations last week, blaming "current economic conditions". Originally the company stated they would keep open their steel division, but closed that as well and filed for bankruptcy.

Michigan Works! is inviting those  who lost their jobs to an event to help them deal with unemployment and hopefully find a new jobs. Their goal is to get several local construction companies to take part.

The event for former Lamar Construction workers is Monday July 21, at the Hudsonville High School cafeteria, located 32nd Avenue in Hudsonville (map). Doors open at 9am and close at noon.
