Talk about dodging a bullet… a family from Indianapolis was unharmed after being Uber driver/killer Jason Brian Dalton’s last fare during his rampage.

It is coming to light that during Dalton’s killing spree, which we told you about earlier, he took the time to pick up a man identified only as “Derek”, his wife, mother-in-law, and father-in-law on a mile and a half trip.

“Derek” spoke to WOOD-TV about the encounter. The family was at a Kalamazoo bar when the bartender told them about a killer being on the loose. To be safe, Derek called for an Uber ride.

By the time Jason Dalton picked them up, he had already murdered six people and injured two. Derek recounts, “My father mentioned from the back seat, you know, the situation with the shooter. I kind of jokingly said to the driver, ‘You’re not the shooter, are you?’ He gave me some sort of a ‘no’ response… shook his head…”

“I said, ‘Are you sure?’ And he said, ‘No, I’m not, I’m just tired,'” Derek continued. “And we proceeded to have a pretty normal conversation after that.”

20 minutes after dropping of Derek and his family at a local hotel, Dalton was taken into custody without incident. The Indianapolis man is shaken by the incident. “It’s a little jarring. I don’t think that it’s really set in yet.”

Wait! There’s more An unauthorized Uber spokesman, who requested anonymity, said Dalton had passed a background check required for drivers employed by the company.

Uber’s chief security officer, Joe Sullivan released a statement saying, “We are horrified and heartbroken at the senseless violence in Kalamazoo, Michigan. We have reached out to the police to help with their investigation in any way that we can.”
