Michigan Releases Annual Rankings Of Public Schools

The Michigan Department of Education has released its annual report card and rankings of Michigan's public schools.

A number of West Michigan schools scored very well, while a few did not.

WZZM reports on some poor performers:

Ten Grand Rapids Public Schools were listed as Priority Schools which "need to improve their attention on student learning."  Two Muskegon Heights schools also fell into this category.

Priority Schools are those in the bottom five percent of the annual Top-to-Bottom ranking.  As required by state law,  Priority Schools are placed under the authority of the State School Reform Office and the schools will be required to implement an intervention model to improve student achievement.

But there is plenty of good news too.

Grand Rapids Public Schools, Spring Lake, Forest Hills, East Grand Rapids, Rockford, Grand Haven, West Ottawa, Zeeland, Hudsonville, and Byron Center all had schools ranked towards the top in the state.
