Loutit District Library and Harbor Island will host the ninth annual Michigan Pirate Festival in Grand Haven, August 3 - 9.

This year's theme is "Pirates through the Ages". Historical and fantasy pirates will be reenacted throughout the festival. Participants come from all around Michigan and the Midwest to entertain and educate.

Kids are invited to pick up a treasure map at the Loutit District Library's Youth Services Area. This treasure map will lead young pirates and their families around downtown Grand Haven in search of fortune.

New to this year's festival is the "friendly abduction" of a city dignitary during the sail-in on Friday, August 7 at 6PM. The pirates will hold their victim for ransom and everyone is invited to help bailout the captive at the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

There is a $5 cover charge at the friendly abduction and there will be a silent auction of donated items from local businesses. Proceeds will be donated to the Waterfront Stadium Project.

On Saturday and Sunday, the pirate festival moves to Harbor Island.  Admission is $5 for adults. Children under 13 years old are free. Hours are 10AM - 6PM each day.
