Michigan Hepatitis A Outbreak Now in Kent County

Hepatitis A is on the rise across the state of Michigan and now the outbreak is found in Kent County.

According to WZZM, nearly 900 cases of Hepatitis A have popped up across Michigan in just two months, and some of those cases are found right here in Kent County.

Kent County has now been listed as an outbreak jurisdiction because cases have now popped up in the county within 100 days of each other. There are now four cases tied to the outbreak, according to the Kent County Health Department.

Many people found to have contracted the virus are people who use illegal drugs, those who are experiencing homelessness, and men who have sex with men. For anyone who is at high risk, vaccination is the best method for prevention.
