Mel Trotter Ministries is always there for people in need, and this year, as in years past, one of the biggest needs over the holidays is food.

In the greater Grand Rapids Area, Christmas Food Boxes will be given out to 650 families as part of Mel Trotter Ministries’ Holiday Food Box program.

There will be 450 boxes given out at Mel Trotter’s downtown food pantry, as well as 50 boxes given out at each of Mel Trotter’s Thrift Stores. Food boxes will contain a frozen turkey and all the trimmings of a traditional holiday meal. The frozen turkeys were donated by the community during the annual Mel Trotter Ministries’ Turkey Drop in November.

The families receiving the food box pre-registered to receive vouchers based on need. Many recipients are regular Mel Trotter Ministries pantry guests who are in need, and
would not otherwise have a warm and hearty Christmas meal. For this year, however, there are no remaining food vouchers available for Christmas food boxes.

They will be handing the food boxes out 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or until boxes are gone) this Thursday, Dec. 17th.

The Food Pantries are located at Mel Trotter Ministries, 225 Commerce Street SW, Grand Rapids, and the Thrift Stores in Jenison, Sparta, Grand Rapids and Goodwill in Belding.
