Meijer is continuing to provide support to Flint with a $500,000 donation to help meet the needs of the city’s residents, who are struggling with contaminated drinking water.

The retailer’s donation will be distributed to three nonprofit organizations that are coordinating a variety of relief efforts related to the ongoing water crisis, including:

  • $250,000 to the Flint Child Health and Development Fund, which is a partnership between the United Way of Genesee County, Community Foundation of Greater Flint, Hurley Children’s Hospital and the Great Flint Health Coalition;
  • $125,000 to the United Way of Genesee County’s Flint Water Fund, which was set up for the purchase of filters, bottled water, emergency support services and prevention efforts; and
  • $125,000 to the American Red Cross, which is coordinating relief efforts in Flint and is operating the Volunteer Reception Center for people to help with the distribution of water, water filters, replacement cartridges and water testing kits.

“At Meijer, we care about those who live in the communities we serve,” Co-Chairman Hank Meijer said. “We stand behind these organizations that are working tirelessly to help the residents of Flint during their time of need.”

Meijer has already coordinated the donation of several truckloads of water through the state of Michigan’s Emergency Management Operations Center. The water was delivered earlier this month to a designated warehouse in Flint. Meijer is also working with several corporate, civic, religious and labor groups to facilitate the delivery of several additional trucks filled with bottled water, and will continue to supply water as needed.
