Crash's Landing helps find homes for cats every day. They have many available for adoption right now, but Van Gogh is not one of those cats.

Van Gogh is more of a spokescat and his story is an important one.

His story serves as a reminder that cats may seek shelter in car engines as temperatures cool.

Crash's Landing is a non-profit, no-kill cat rescue center.  Since opening in Grand Rapids in 2002, Crash's Landing has helped more than 2,500 cats. But there is still work to be done.

This week, we're spotlighting Van Gogh.

Van Gogh was found under a deck in Lowell in October of 2013. The homeowner wasn't able to get a good look at Van Gogh for a few days because he kept hiding. When she did she was shocked and immediately called Crash's Landing.

Van Gogh's face was literally half cut off. He had been cut by a car engine fan blade. His ear had to be removed. There was no skin to cover it. It took a long time and a lot of care and medication, but today Van Gogh is happy and healthy.

His story serves as an important reminder to watch for cats in engines in cooler weather.
