Meet The Criminal Defense Attorneys

David LaGrand
David LaGrand graduated from Calvin College in 1988 with a Bachelor in Arts degree in History. After graduate work at the University of Michigan in History, LaGrand went on to earn a law degree from the University of Chicago in 1992.

David worked for eight years as an Assistant Kent County Prosecutor. In 2000, David moved to private practice. Currently, David concentrates his practice in the area of criminal law. Some of his greatest achievements involve working with his clients and their community to seek socially responsible solutions to the breach of law.

David has been active in the West Michigan business community. The LaGrands and their neighbors opened the Wealthy Street Bakery in 2003. The bakery has received numerous awards and national recognition for facility rehabilitation, neighborhood revitalization, and business success.

David is also active in state and local politics. He was elected to the Grand Rapids City Commission in 2007 and to the Grand Rapids School Board in 2012. While on the City Commission, David assembled the Grand Rapids Restorative Justice Initiative, and began a Restorative Justice program in the Grand Rapids court system. He continues to speak and teach on Restorative Justice issues.

David lives in Grand Rapids with his wife Melissa and their four children, John, Isaac, Helen, and Julia. He is a member of Eastern Avenue Christian Reformed Church, where he leads in a prison ministry.

Jessica Lowery
Jessica (Talbot) Lowery was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She attended Catholic Central High School, and then went on to receive her Bachelors in Arts from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Following college graduation, Jessica moved to Detroit to attend Wayne State University Law School. While in law school, Jessica clerked for both a criminal defense attorney in downtown Detroit, as well as a criminal appellate attorney. It was during this time that Jessica became especially interested in practicing criminal defense. Following her law school graduation and admission to the Michigan State Bar, Jessica returned to Grand Rapids. She joined David LaGrand at LaGrand & Denenfeld, PLLC in early 2009 and subsequently, LaGrand & Lowery PLLC following Judge Denenfeld’s appointment to the Circuit Court bench.

Jessica lives in Grand Rapids with her husband, their two kids, and two dogs.

Kate Tramontana
Kate Tramontana is originally from Washington, D.C. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish from Allegheny College, in Meadville, Pennsylvania and she received her Juris Doctor degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While in law school, Kate was the Executive Coordinator of the Moot Court Executive Board at the Grand Rapids Campus. She received the Frank Harper Achievement Award for her time served on the Moot Court Executive Board. Kate was also a member of the Thomas M. Cooley Law Review. She served as an Associate Editor and Managing Associate Editor and received the John D. Voelker Award for her service to the Law Review. While in law school, Kate externed at the Kent County Office of the Defender and was a Teaching Assistant for Criminal Law and Scholarly Writing. Upon graduation, she received the Leadership Achievement Award. In addition to practicing law, Kate is the Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Restorative Justice Coalition of West Michigan. She lives in Grand Rapids with her husband and dog.
