This Saturday at 9am, hundreds of volunteers will come together with Mayor George Heartwell (Grand Rapids) plus the mayors of Grandville, Walker, and Wyoming to help clean up the Grand River. This year marks the 9th annual Mayor’s Grand River Cleanup, and throughout the years, volunteers have managed to clean up over 100,000 pounds of trash from the river and the banks alongside of it.

Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell, Walker Mayor Rob VerHeulen, Wyoming Mayor Jack Poll and Grandville Mayor James Buck are sponsoring this year’s clean up of the Grand River in their respective communities. An estimated 450 volunteers are needed to collectively cover over 12 miles of riverbank.

Want to get involved?  Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. at Sixth Street Park with the Clean Up running from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will be transported by shuttle bus to various locations in Grand Rapids, Walker, Wyoming and Grandville. Refreshments will be served before and after the event.

You can register to be a volunteer online by clicking here, or you can just show up tomorrow morning at 9am at 6th Street Park. They won’t turn anyone away!
