Mary the dog is our special pet of the week.

Andy Rent talked about her on his Andy in the Morning show for Wet Nose Wednesday.

Meet Mary, an American Staffordshire Terrier mix. Trudy, from the Humane Society, brought Mary into the studios.

Mary is 3-months old, has been spayed, micro-chipped, had all her vaccinations and is looking for her forever home. She would be a wonderful addition to any home, children or not.

According to the American Kennel Club, the Staffordshire Terrier is a confident, good-natured and smart dog. They enjoy daily exercise and is adaptable to almost anything you want to do to provide this. Sounds like a good pet to me.

Last weekend's Empty the Shelter campaign was a huge success. Thanks to the Bissell Pet Foundation and the community, it was another successful adoption event as the Humane Society adopted out 55 animals and overall, 1944 from 50 shelters around Michigan.

Trudy mentioned that now through Sunday, 10/30, at participating Spartan-Nash stores, Family Fare, Forest Hills Foods, and D&W Fresh Market, shoppers can purchase, or drop off, pet food, treats, and toys to benefit animals in need at HSWM. Shopping carts to collect goods will be located in the entry of participating stores. Participating stores will also be donating 5% of PAWS brand pet food sales. HSWM is 100% donor funded and it costs more than $17,000 annually to feed the 4,000+ animals who receive care at their shelter each year. Your donations will also benefit the Kibble Konnection program, a pet food bank that distributes more than 27,000 lbs of food annually to assist low-income pet owners during tough times and helps to keep pets in their homes with their families.

You can get all the information on the Humane Society website or call (616) 453-8900.
